If I Were Getting Married in 2018 by Mandy Brown
Instead of the typical “2018 Wedding Trends” post that is all over the internet right now, I wanted to put my own spin on it. My husband and I have been married for 4 years now, and a lot has changed in the wedding industry since then that I found myself asking, “What would we do if we were getting married in 2018?”
I sat down with my husband and asked him what he would like if we were planning a wedding in 2018. We knew we’d want to have it in Michigan again as we love our home state and it makes it easy for the majority of our guests. In addition to the state, here is what we agreed upon…
In the fall (if you haven’t been to Michigan in the fall, you’re missing out!!)
100 guests or under
Big focus on food and beverage
Cars implemented somehow (my husband is obsessed with cars)
Absolutely have some of the same vendors as we had before
Outside of these few things, it’s all up to me. Pretending budget isn’t an issue and going for exactly what I would want, I started acting like any other new bride does right now and went straight to Pinterest for inspiration. This is what I came up with…
The metro Detroit area has a lot to offer when it comes to venues, rentals and creative vendors, so it feels like being a kid in a candy store for a wedding planner. Because food and beverage is a central part of what we feel helps create an intimate family gathering, the centerpieces on the long family style tables would be simply food and taper candles, and all floral décor would be put into an extra-large ceiling installation and into the shadow box bars. Add in a lounge space near the bar with a fun backdrop and lighting that instantly becomes a selfie station. And let’s not forget (because this planner has a major sweet tooth), a mixture of water color painted cakes and cupcake with flowers and real fruit, cider mill donuts with fresh cider and mini pies as favors. For specific vendors, here is who I picked…
Venue: Ford Piquette Avenue Plant
Rentals: Event Theory for Flatware, Charger, Chairs, Lighting, Shadowbox Bar
Linens: BBJ Linens Rose Quartz Velvet for tables and Rosewood Cora for napkins
Mini Pie Favors: Achatz Pies
Cider and Donuts: Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill
Cupcakes: Pink Elephant Cupcakes*
Dress: Alyxia by Carol Hannah
DJ: Mary Ann Productions*
Shuttle: Detroit Bus Company*
Videography: 3rd Street Films*
*Vendors we actually used for our wedding and would happily have again
